CHARLES GOODGER, creator of the FunSongs Approachwww.funsongs.co.uk, will provide an enjoyable and useful FunSongs Day workshop for primary school teachers of English. His catchy songs cover a wide range of themes from animals, numbers and colours, through to seasons, festivities, sports and more. Participants will learn how to apply FunSongs materials to their courses. At the end of the workshop, teachers will be able to:

•  motivate their kids and classes with music, mime,  rhythm and rhyme;

•  achieve  Permanent Memory Acquisition by teaching new words through action songs;

•  understand how to recycle and practise the language presented in an action song;

•  download free songs and worksheets from the FunSongs website to use in class.

SESSION ONE: Music and Language - two sides of the same coin?  (2 hours) What is the connection between music and language and its implications for language learning? Participants will focus on the suggestive power of melody and be shown how to exploit it didactically. We will learn to use elements of TPR (Total Physical Response) to choreograph a song. We will also try out rhythm and rhyme-based techniques to improve pronunciation and enhance memorization.

SESSION TWO: Teaching Action Songs (2 hours) Participants will next learn how to choose, present, teach, and exploit an action song depending on the levels of competence of the class. Teachers will try out a series of techniques to understand how to integrate an action song module.

SESSION THREE: Recycling and Practising (2 hours) Participants will then learn how to break down and recycle the language of a song in a variety of contexts. We will try out the graded worksheets available on the FunSongs website and learn how to download, save and use the
